Biography
Mathijs (°1979) studied veterinary medicine at Utrecht University, where he specialized in small animal health. After working as a veterinary surgeon for a CVS practice in the UK, he remigrated to the Netherlands to start his career as Consultant at Across Health.
His previous career path not only provided him with all-round experience in modern evidence-based medicine, but also gave him firsthand experience in practicing medicine in a corporate environment.
During his training, he taught physiology at Utrecht University and spent several months in South Africa doing research with African Buffalos. Mathijs has a natural affinity with technology. He's been deeply involved with digital media ever since the early '90s, when he participated in events such as the Unesco ‘Time’ project '95 and the Informatics Olympiad (finalist).
As both a medical professional and a strong believer in the proverb 'to learn is to forget, to understand is to remember', Mathijs always strives to help clients understand why and how in order to increase success rates. This urge to diversify, learn and teach, combined with his constant desire to innovate drove him to make a career change and join Across Health.
In his spare time Mathijs is an avid outdoorsman, as well as being a keen cook and photographer. When not out on the field playing hockey, he enjoys reading with a glass of single malt in hand.
