Chart in focus: Personal Health Records (US, Forrester 2009)

Personal Health Records

There has been a lot of noise around personal health records -- particularly Google Health and Microsoft Healthvault. This market research from Forrester (2009, US focus) shows that the penetration of these 2 standard is still very limited. However, this should not tempt us to conclude this is a short-lived hype…Indeed, we firmly believe that things will change, and Google & Microsoft are well-placed to offer a provider-neutral platform which patients can take with them when they switch insurance companies, hospitals, and doctors without feeling locked in (see the analogy of the mobile phone number, which once was linked to the provider). What the landscape in Europe will look like is even more interesting…(How) should pharma enter this dynamic scene? This is an important question for anyone engaged in customer innovation and digital in 2010.
